FIRE PERFORMANCE
The 8000 series panel is a non-fire rated product, although being manufactured from steel it is non-combustible, excluding the marine ply, which is tiled over, and the non-structural plastic components. For further advice on fire resistance requirements, contact Profab Technical Services Department
.

APPLICATIONS & USES
All standard panels are for internal use and only in areas of normal humidity. For areas of high humidity or in tiled walls that will get wet, the stainless steel/push catch option should be selected, i.e. Z/8000/TF/PC. The grout width that is usually left open can be filled with soft mastic for a totally concealed and sealed solution. This is easily removable in an emergency service situation and can be quickly resealed after a repair.

INTRODUCTION
The PROFAB 8000 series range of hinged steel access panels provides modular access into ceramic and marble tiled walls up to an overall thickness of 10mm (tile and adhesive bedding), where regular access to mechanical and electrical services is required.

DESCRIPTION

COMPOSITION & MANUFACTURE
The welded metal frame holds a metal door tray lined with marine-ply. The door is hinged via fully adjustable concealed hinges and is held closed by either a push-catch (PC) or security key lock (SL) that opens towards the user. The door is removable if damage occurs or during installation. Panels are manufactured to exact tile module, either as fully concealed, so that after installation, only the open grout line is visible (TF), or alternatively, manufactured for retrofitting where the metal edges of the frame will be visible (EEF). A constant grout-width gap is maintained between the door and frame by the fully adjustable hinge system. Panels are supplied powder coated semi-gloss white all-over unless they are manufactured in stainless steel (Z).

8000/TF/PC or SL
Frame: 1.6mm thick, factory welded, electro-galvanised mild steel with concealed frame flange. Manufactured to suit specified tile module size and finished powder coated semi-gloss white all-over and fitted with rubber compressible gasket to all sides.
Door: 1.6mm thick, electro-galvanised mild steel door tray finished powder coated semi-gloss white all-over and lined with marine-ply to accept selected tile.
Locks: Select from concealed push catches (PC) or security lock (SL). All are fitted on the rear of the frame/door.

8000/EEF
All as above options but with visible frame edges for retrofitting.

Custom manufactured to fit any tile size and grout gap. Single door up to 900mm x 2800mm. Double door and multi door types are also available. Details on request.

All dimensions in millimetres.
All doors hinge along dimension Y.
All panels are single door and side hung. Panels that require the width to be greater than 600mm must be top-hung and fitted with supporting door stays by the factory. They should be specified and ordered with this instruction, although the hinge side always remains as dimension Y.

KEY POINTS TO NOTE

  • X and Y dimensions on the 8000/TF are the manufactured panel size and relate to the door size that is obtained from tile module and grout thickness multiples. Tile size, thickness and grout width to be specified when ordering.
  • Overall frame depth is 76.5mm.
  • Minimum grout thickness is 1 mm.
  • Structural opening required for 8000/TF installation is (X+(2 x grout width)+5) x (Y+(2 x grout width)+5). Use suitable packing at fixing points between the frame and structural wall to maintain square-ness and rigidity.
  • When the 8000/EEF retrofitted panel is required, the door size is reduced and calculated at the manufacture stage. Full tiles are removed from where the access panel is required to leave a structural opening size for the frame to be fitted. The resulting gaps between the full tiles and frame are filled with flexible mastic. Tiles for the door are cut down to suit the door size on site by the contractor.

FIRE PERFORMANCE
The 8000/ 2FR series panel has been designed so as not to impair the fire resistance performance of the surrounding fire rated wall into which it is installed. It will match the tested or assessed construction. The structural components and fixing methods used are all non-combustibla. Small plastic components and air seals will melt, but are not structural.

Fire Test Data:
A 2 Hour fire resistance to to BS476 Part 22: 1987 was carried out on a 600mm x 600mm single door. It maintained the intergrity criteria for 120 minutes.
Test No. 148680. Dated 7 December 2005
Warringtion Fire (UK)

Testing and assessments are ongoing. Please contact Profab Technical Services far the latest verification data.

8000/TF is suitable for vertical use where the panel is being installed prior to any ceramic/marble tiling being completed.
8000/EEF is suitable for vertical use where the panel is being installed after all ceramic/marble tiling work has been completed or where protective edges are required.

SPECIFICATIONS

EXAMPLE:
Access panel type 8000/TF/SL Size 454 x 606mm single door unit to suit 150 x 150x 6mm ceramic tiles with a 2mm grout width and fitted with a chrome security key lock, supplied by Profab Access Limited.

OTHER OPTIONS
The 8000 series is a strong, purpose made, high quality access panel designed to provide a simple yet secure means of accessing building services. Some modifications are available with this product as Profab's manufacturing flexibility provides for alternative materials, sizes, locks and door combinations. Discussions with Profab should take place at the earliest opportunity if specification changes are being considered.

INSTALLATION
Apertures formed in masonry and dry lined walls should be correctly formed in accordance with the wall/system manufacturer's recommendations. The wall should adequately support the panel's additional weight and operating forces exerted on it during installation and operation. Typical fixing details are shown on this data sheet.

OPERATION
Operated from the front face, the push catch (PC) requires no key. The security lock (SL) has an integral, visible chrome escutcheon to accept the key (included). (Additional keys and caps are available from Profab).

SUPPLY
Available direct from Profab and through a network of distributors. Refer to Profab for guidance.
