Profab designed and manufactured a 3mtr x 7mtr custom made bomb bay door type ceiling panel with an aluminium extrusion lining to the face of the panel supplied by Alusuisse France.
The panel was located in the Land Securities’ Gresham Street office development and was installed and commissioned by Dry Lining specialist MPG Contracts Ltd. The initial design concept by project architect Sidell Gibson was co-ordinated by MPG and developed over a two month period by a group of designers: Jeff Tidmarsh (Sir Robert McAlpine); Russ Pent (Sidell Gibson); Richard Tribe (MPG Contracts) and Austin Stone (Profab Access).
Austin Stone, Profab’s Technical Director, explains: “The design was evolved to facilitate extra technical details as the project progressed. We decided that the best starting point was to build a full size rig in the Profab factory to test various design concepts. In doing so MPG were able to anticipate and overcome difficult interface problems ahead of installation.”
Alan Howard-Spink, MPG’s Project Manager was delighted with the commitment shown by Profab design and production staff. Alan says: “The panel was delivered in kit form to facilitate assembly and installation on site within the short timeframe available. As the ceiling void was heavily serviced, we had to plan carefully to enable us to install the panel whilst ensuring that the service footbridge remained safe for all.”
